Tensions have escalated between the major ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, over the appointment of the new Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. Both parties’ top leaders, holding firm to their respective positions, have initiated crucial talks today at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called a cabinet meeting at 5:30 PM today, signaling that a decision on the Governor’s appointment will be made there. The high-level discussions between Congress and UML ahead of the cabinet meeting carry significant political weight.

Attending the talks are Prime Minister Oli, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. According to sources, the meeting is deeply discussing not only the Governor’s appointment but also power-sharing arrangements and the future of the coalition.

However, some sources indicate that PM Oli may not be keen on making an immediate appointment. In this context, Congress President Deuba has convened a party leaders’ meeting tomorrow (Friday) at his residence in Budhanilkantha, expected to review the coalition partnership with UML and decide future strategies.

Meanwhile, political analysts note that the uncertainty now extends beyond the Governor’s appointment to the long-term stability and future of the ruling alliance.
