April 6, 2026, Kathmandu — The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) is now opening the stock market on Fridays since the government has already declared Sunday a public holiday in order to decrease oil usage. This change marks the return of NEPSE Friday Trading, which ensures that the market continues to operate efficiently for investors.
This announcement was recently made by the management of the exchange at a board meeting, and with this move, the Nepali stock market will now operate five days per week. Under the new rule, the Nepali stock market will close on Sundays, while Fridays will become a new working day for the stock market.
According to the Chief Executive Officer, Chudamani Chapagain, NEPSE will now operate from its trading floor on Fridays up to 5 pm. The share market will conduct trading operations as usual without affecting the number of trading days.
This is not the first instance when NEPSE uses such a timetable. In 2022, when the government declared two days off on weekends, which included Sunday, NEPSE traded from Monday to Friday. However, when the two days off were later canceled, the old timetable resumed its operation. As soon as Sunday became a holiday again, NEPSE resumed the Friday timetable, reviving NEPSE Friday Trading.
In other words, the timetable will not affect the number of trading days in the week since it remains the same. Investors should only adapt themselves to a new timetable that includes no trade on Sunday and trades on Friday.
