xAI, which is an AI firm owned by Elon Musk, has acquired its third building in an effort to further boost its computing capabilities in AI. The efforts of the company can be attributed to an intention to train more superior AI and rival other giant firms in AI.

xAI Expansion Strengthens Colossus Supercomputer

The new facility is located near Memphis, Tennessee, and will support xAI’s Colossus supercomputer cluster. The company plans to use hundreds of thousands of GPUs in the building, and the total capacity could reach nearly 2 gigawatts of computing power.

The update was shared on Elon Musk’s social platform, X, where he stated that the addition of the third building would help hasten AI research. This expansion reveals the ambitions of xAI to compete with the giant players in the AI industry, such as OpenAI and Anthropic.

The new data center will launch in 2026. Problems have been raised with energy consumption and adaptation, since these big data centers require a lot of energy for operation. The building is near a natural gas power plant, which will provide much of the required power.

xAI continues to grow quickly, showing that AI compute power expansion is now a key part of the global race in artificial intelligence.
