Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has been granted a Meta AI patent for an AI system that could use a person’s past online activity to simulate their behaviour on social media even when they are no longer active or have passed away.
According to the patent, the artificial intelligence would study a user’s previous posts, comments, likes and interactions. It could then generate new posts, replies and reactions that look like they come from the real person. The idea is to keep an account active when someone is away for a long time or permanently.
Meta says that receiving a patent does not mean it plans to build or release this technology. Many companies file patents for ideas that may never become real products.
Experts say the concept raises serious questions about privacy, consent and digital identity. People will need to think about how their data might be used in the future if technologies like this are developed.
This Meta AI patent shows how AI may shape the future of social media even in ways that seem surprising or unusual today.
