Kathmandu — In the latest Nepal agriculture news, the Nepal–India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) proposed a fertiliser plant in Nepal with India. The plant aims to end yearly fertiliser shortages that hurt farmers.
NICCI President Sunil KC discussed the plan with Pramod Kumar Meherda, Additional Secretary at India’s Agriculture Department. He said the plant could supply fertiliser on time, increase crop yields, and help food security.
The Nepalese farmers can, at times, experience fertilizer shortages during planting seasons of plantings. The fertilizer requirement will be reduced with the plant in the country. Additionally, it will make fertilizer more accessible.
The plan could also boost Nepal-India economic cooperation. Both countries can share investment, technology, and expertise to make it successful.
Sunil KC said that delays in fertiliser supply are a significant problem for farmers. He believes a joint venture can fix this and help Nepal’s agriculture sector grow.
Experts say a Nepal–India fertiliser plant could increase crop production, support rural farmers, and help Nepal produce its own fertiliser.
The plant will be welcome at a time when Nepal is facing supply chain and fertiliser demand challenges. The plant will help to stabilise and increase the supply of fertiliser in the region.
