Nepal Hikes Fuel Prices for Third Time in a Month

Kathmandu, April 3, 2026 — Nepal hikes fuel prices once again as Nepal Oil Corporation increases rates for the third time in a month.

The price of petrol and diesel/kerosene has been increased by Rs 15 per liter. With the latest increase, the price of a liter of petrol is now Rs 202, and diesel/kerosene is available at Rs 182 per liter in the Valley.

The Nepal Oil Corporation has said that the latest increase is due to an increase in international fuel prices. Nepal is a landlocked country. It imports fuel. The international price of fuel has an immediate effect on Nepal.

Despite this increase in prices, NOC is still suffering losses. Recently, it has incurred a loss of Rs 47/liter for petrol and Rs 133/liter for diesel fuel. The loss incurred in cooking gas is still high, i.e., Rs 416/cylinder.

Recently, there has been a sharp increase in the prices of aviation fuel for international flights. This increase in aviation fuel prices is more than 77 percent. At the same time, domestic aviation fuel prices have almost doubled to Rs 251/liter.

With Nepal hikes fuel prices again, there is an expectation that the cost of transportation will increase, which could result in an increase in the prices of goods and services in the country.
