Birgunj Exports Rise Driven by Edible Oil and Manufacturing Growth

BIRGUNJ: Nepal has witnessed robust Birgunj exports rise in the current fiscal year, with total exports of Rs 79.54 billion for the first nine months, as per statistics provided by the Birgunj Customs Office.

An increase of Rs 10.19 billion over last year’s figure of Rs 69.35 billion represents a rise of about 15% in Birgunj exports.

The rise in Birgunj exports is due to processed edible oils and other manufactures. Exports of refined soybean oil topped the chart with a figure of Rs 43.61 billion as against Rs 36.62 billion in the last year.

The exports of fruit juice have been up slightly to Rs 5.84 billion. The refined palm oil witnessed one of the largest rises, soaring to Rs 5.24 billion compared to only Rs 590 million last year.

On the other hand, the exports of refined sunflower oil fell to Rs 5.5 billion, down from Rs 6.61 billion last year.

Along with that, the other notable contributors to the rise in Birgunj exports are the exports of fabrics, which totaled Rs 2.69 billion, and those of synthetic yarn, totaling Rs 1.94 billion.

Thus, the consistent Birgunj exports rise reflects positively on the economic state of Nepal.
